David Hale started the game on the mound for the Braves, pitching fantastic and earning his 1st win of the season. Hale gave up just 2 base hits in the 8 innings he pitched, allowing only 1 earned run. He walked 2 men and recorded 4 strikeouts.
Mike Leake started for the Reds, and is charged with his 2nd loss of the year after giving up 4 earned runs in 7 innings. Leake gave up 8 hits while striking out 4. Every run he gave up came via a home run.
The Braves scored their first runs of the game in the 1st inning off a Freddie Freeman 2-run home run, his 6th homer of 2014. Evan Gattis also hit his 6th home run of the year, a solo shot, in the 3rd inning. Justin Upton also homered in the 3rd, hitting his 7th home run of the season. The one run Cincinnati scored came in the 1st inning via a Ryan Ludwick RBI. The only stolen base of the game came from Justin Upton, who stole his 3rd bag of the year. Craig Kimbrel struck out 2 Reds and gave up 1 walk on his way to saving his 8th game of the season.
Julio Teheran (2-1, 1.80 ERA) will try to continue what has been a great season so far today when he makes the start for Atlanta as they go for the sweep of the Reds, who will send Johnny Cueto (2-2, 1.38 ERA) to the mound. The game will begin at 1:35 EST.
